There is scant attention paid to the setting, which was a disappointment. There is overmuch conversation between the chef and her sous sorting out theories of the case: who is trying to murder the potential victim? Much of that ought to be internal dialogue for the reader. All of the characters - good and bad - seem overdrawn and unidimensional. Her niece is the most perfect of little girls. Her sous chef is a private investigator who knows everything and everybody.
